8-year-old Dalit girl found dead in field, strangled to death with her ‘salwar’; locals allege rape

A minor Dalit girl was allegedly strangled to death in a field in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh on Sunday.

Bareilly: An 8-year-old Dalit girl was allegedly strangled to death and abandoned in a sugar cane field in the Pasgawan area of Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh on Sunday. Some of the locals have alleged that the girl was raped and murdered. Meanwhile, the cops suspect that the girl was murdered as the unidentified suspect failed to rape her.

The minor girl had gone missing on Sunday afternoon. Reportedly, the accused removed the girl’s trousers and used them to strangle her. The girl’s father works as a labourer.

Girl had gone to graze goats with grandmother 

The girl’s father had gone to Punjab to work there as a contractual farm labourer and was going to return by Monday evening. Eldest among all three siblings, the girl had gone to the field with her grandmother, to graze goats on Sunday. In the afternoon, the 8-year-old girl told her grandmother that she was going home but did not reach there even in the evening.

Following this, the girl’s family started looking for her and informed the cops. Two teams began searching for the girl and found her dead body in a field outside the village, The Times of India reported. Later, a team of forensic experts were called to the spot to collect the evidence. The girl’s ‘salwar‘ was found around her neck. She had reported been strangled to death with the salwar.

‘My daughter was very innocent. Why would someone kill her?’

The deceased’s mother said, “My daughter was very innocent. Why would someone kill her? We don’t have enmity with anyone in the village and we never harmed anyone Someone must have done bad with her and killed her. ”

Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Vijay Dhull said that a panel of experts is performing the post-mortem and the report of the same will confirm if the girl was sexually assaulted. He added that the deceased girl’s body did not bear any other injury marks.
