An FIR has been registered against 40 Muslims in Kanpur for offering namaz on the streets on the occasion of Eid-al-Adha.
Of the many people who went to offer prayers at the Eidgah Masjid in the Jajmau area of Kanpur on Thursday, some reached too late, and so, they decided to sit on the road and offer namaz, said locals.
There is a government direction against offering prayer on roads, said police who are trying to identify those prayed on roads with the help of photographs and videos.
An FIR was registered against 40 unidentified persons under IPC sections 186 (obstructing a public servant in discharge of public functions), 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), 283 (danger or obstruction in public way or line of navigation) and 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint).
No arrests have been made so far.
