27-year-old youth Rafeeque was beaten to death by a mob at Olavakkode village in Kerala’s Palakkad district in the early hours of Friday.
The assailants alleged that the deceased youth was stealing a motorbike.
The incident occurred at 1.45 am on Friday.
The assailants who hail from Pallasena and Kollengode villages tried to flee the scene after the incident and was detained by the residents in the neighbourhood and handed over to the police.
Three youth Guruvayurappan, Maneesh and Surya have been taken into custody by the police in this connection. The assailants were returning from Mundur Kummatti Festival in nearby temple, local media reported.
The Deputy superintendent of police PC Haridas said to media that they were examining the CCTV visuals to find out if there were more persons involved.
Meanwhile, the post-mortem report pointed to head injury as the cause of Rafeeque’s death.
An eyewitness Binu while speaking to MediaOne TV, claimed that there were at least 15 people brutally beating Rafeeque.
