22-year-old Dalit youth battered to death with sticks in UP

The police in Chandauli, Uttar Pradesh, is on the lookout for a group of persons who allegedly lynched a 22-year-old Dalit youth.

Lucknow: A 22-year-old Dalit youth was allegedly lynched in the Alinagar area of Chandauli district in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday. The incident came to light when the deceased’s father approached the cops and lodged a complaint. Ten persons have been named in the FIR while several others are yet to be identified.

The prime accused has been identified as Kamla Yadav. The accused hail from the Sikotia village while the victim hails from Taranpur village. The incident took place as retaliation after a makeshift shop owned by a member of the Yadav community was set afire two days ago.

Victim hit on the head

The Yadav community suspected that the victim, Vishal Paswan, and his aides had a part to play in the incident. An argument broke out when the accused allegedly hit Paswan hit him on the head with a stick. He lost consciousness and breathed his last soon after.

Following the 22-year-old youth’s death, the two communities clashed but no injuries were reported. Paswan’s family kept his body on the road and raised slogans, demanding stringent action against the accused, The Indian Express reported. Local BJP MLA Sadhna Singh met Paswan’s family and assured them of help.

The prime accused, Kamla Yadav, has been arrested while raids are being conducted to nab the others. According to the complaint lodged by the deceased’s father, he (Paswan) received a phone call on Saturday morning. After the phone call, the youth went to the Taranpur crossing with his neighbour Ajay Kumar alias Sheru. Following this, he was allegedly assaulted to death.
