Bareilly: Ten years after a 16-year-old Dalit girl was abducted, gang-raped, kept in confinement for several days and later burnt to death when she lodged an FIR against the culprits, a Pocso court in Budaun sentenced two accused to life imprisonment.
“Three accused — Mukesh Yadav, Ram Babu and Vijay Jatav — were booked under sections 376-D (gang rape), 342 (wrongful confinement) and 174A (non-appearance in response to proclamation) of IPC along with Pocso and the SC/ST Acts.
Police initially failed to nab the accused and didn’t register the girl’s statement in court under 164 CrPC,” ADGC Atul Singh said on Saturday.
“A month after the crime, Vijay and Rajendra, Mukesh’s father, barged into her home and burnt her alive to prevent her from recording a statement before the court. In her dying statement, she named those who raped and immolated her,” the ADGC added.
